Movers and Shakers Annual London Residential Breakfast
5th July 2018 @ 7:30 am - 9:30 am
£80.10The theme of our Annual Residential breakfast is both timely and topical. We will explore the question – “Are Modular Homes the way forward?” With the massive challenge to build more homes and the increasing shortfall of skills and resources, could Modular Construction and offsite manufacture be a solution to the problem?
We have a first-rate panel of speakers to discuss how far Modular Housing can go in underpinning housing growth in the Capital. With arguably a skills crisis, a potential labour shortage, a lack of housing supply and a need for assured quality of home building; Modular Housing is being looked at as a potential saviour for the house building Industry? Is this a “real” solution going forward? What are the challenges of getting this up to scale in London and the UK? Can investors concerns be allayed? Can the perception of poorer quality and monolithic design be overcome, to show a high quality and flexible alternative to increase housing output? And, can Modular construction revolutionise modern construction techniques?
Mark Farmer – heading up Cast Real Estate, is a keen advocate and very passionate about Modular methods of construction and digitally led manufacturing. He is the author of Modernise of Die, a review of the UK Construction Labour Model. Rosie Toogood – CEO of L&G Modular Homes, is a relative newcomer to the sector, but experienced in very complex engineering projects, and is well placed to discuss the challenges of bringing Modular manufacturing up to speed. Karl Whiteman – Director of Berkeley and Simon Gawthorpe – MD of Urban Splash, have played major roles in the development of their respective modular models. Finally, Sir Eddie Lister – now Chairman of Homes England, can give the Government / public sector perspective. Is Government doing enough to support Modular and off-site manufacturing and what will unlock growth? Is there a case for incentivisation?
