As part of the UK/Poland Season 2025, ‘Curated Connections Chapter 3: Deformation Study’ opened at HENGE London on 30 October unveiling the works of Polish ceramicist Monika Patuszyńska. The evening included an ‘In Conversation With’ interview led by Grant Gibson, co-founder of Material Matters’ followed by an evening reception.

‘Curated Connections: Polish Design Across London’ initiated and organised by On&On Designs, is a three-part series of exhibitions produced with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland, the Polish Cultural Institute in London and the Let’s Art Foundation. ‘Chapter 3 – Deformation Studies’ presents the works of Polish ceramic artist, designer and curator Monika Patuszyńska and her experiments with porcelain and plaster, and the embracing of fracture, imperfection and transformation in her work.

The event was attended by representatives from across the interior architecture, design and ceramics industries, each enjoying the latest presentation of Polish creativity, with pieces artfully displayed among the masterful Italian craftsmanship of the HENGE London showroom.

The exhibition opening, with drinks sponsored by Kavka Vodka, featured artist Monika Patuszyńska ‘In Conversation With’ Grant Gibson, co-founder of Material Matters. Their engaging discussion offered insights into Patuszyńska’s distinctive artistic process and her evolving relationship with materiality. She spoke in depth about her connection to porcelain, her unconventional production techniques – including the use of brown parcel tape – and how these reflect shifting perceptions of the material and her exploration of the true nature of beauty.
“The event at Henge was excellent – prestigious show with so many interesting guests from all over Europe, enjoying Monika’s pieces elegantly curated in the space by the On&On Designs team,” Peter Fudakowski, film producer and director.

At HENGE, Patuszyńska presents three collections alongside a selection of larger individual works. In total, nineteen pieces are on display. The exhibition, open until 29 November is thoughtfully curated, harmonising seamlessly with the showroom’s luxurious materials and natural colour palette. It invites guests to experience the works in situ, encouraging them to envision the pieces within their own homes.

Cherished Disasters’ is a series that is intentionally cast to deform. Each object celebrates distortion, treading the line between intentional design and the limits of materiality – the pieces a visual reminder of playing with failure and turning it into a personalised way of working. When asked about her pieces during the discussion with Gibson, Patuszyńska said: ‘Failure becomes technique once you learn to replicate it,’ a comment that perfectly summarises this collection.

‘From the Bastards’ series displays the shift in relationship between artist and material from fighting one another to listening to each other and celebrating the unique beauty that is created as a result.

‘Study of Deformation’ series is the third collection on display at Henge and is a search for a form’s inner tensions. With this collection, Patuszyńska positions herself not as a creator but as a companion to the material, embracing and celebrating its independence.

‘Henge provided the perfect setting to showcase my collections with the attention to craftsmanship complementing my work beautifully. Seeing so many people engage with my pieces made the night a true success!’ says Monika Patuszyńska.

‘Monika is a shining example of how to express the known into new shapes by letting the material rule – giving it more than centre stage to show the way in its physicality. We are excited to host Monika’s interesting storytelling’, says Christina Schmidt, HENGE London

As part of the UK / Poland Season ‘Curated Chapters’ continues the celebration of Polish innovation, craftsmanship, and cultural exchange this year.
