This exhibition explores nature from the perspective of two artists. Wenke Reitz depicts the thoughts and emotions of animals though her ‘animal portraits.’ Thomas Stimpson MBE depicts the corresponding habitats where these animals are found. Their intention is to raise awareness of the fragility of the planet and our place within nature.
This exhibition is the result of the questions and responses they have raised about nature and the animals who belong in them. In the current dialogue around climate and the choices we make about the planet it could not come at a more important moment.
Both the landscapes and the Animal Portraits are painted in oil with a few paintings in water colour.
The two artists worked through the current pandemic via remote meeting platforms to collaborate on this project, responding to the tonal qualities in each other’s works.
Tom Stimpson MBE says: “Never in History has there been a need to stop and think about our own personal impact on our planet.”
Wenke Reitz says: “The aim of this exhibition is to raise awareness for the necessity for all inhabitants of this planet to coexist and achieve a much-needed synergy.”
This exhibition is sponsored by the Soldiers Art Academy (SAA) which aims to support veterans in fulfilling their artistic potential. Twenty percent of sales proceeds will go to the SAA. SAA founder and director Amanda Faber introduced the two artists and conceived the idea for this exhibition.
