STAY achieves a Gold Award from Green Tourism for Sustainability Initiatives
London, November 2022 – STAY, the premium serviced apartment brand based in Camden, London, has achieved the Green Tourism Gold Award for its approach to sustainability in the serviced apartment industry. The Green Tourism scheme is a third-party assessment of a businesses’ sustainability practices, providing international recognition, with a Gold Award marking the highest level of achievement.
STAY, along with its parent company LabTech, has been working to minimise its environmental impact, while supporting local community initiatives that improve the quality of life for local Camden residents, leveraging specialist guidance from external sustainability consultants, Mission: Net Zero.
As a result, STAY Camden’s Green Statement includes the following areas of focus (summarized below), that will help to create a vibrant environment that people will want to live, work and visit, while having a positive impact on the local and global environment.
Waste management: STAY Camden achieves a minimum of 95% recycling and reuse rate through the use of trusted waste partners that travel on barges via the canals, to minimise road movements and CO2 emissions.
Energy usage: Buildings are monitored for optimum energy use via Smart Green meters. Innovative solutions are being sought to continually reduce consumption.
Renewable energy: STAY Camden actively pursues renewable energy tariffs across the estate, with renewable energy solutions installed to contribute to a reduction in dependency on the national grid.
Plastic reduction: STAY is committed to the reduction of single use plastic within the apartments and are working towards the replacement of all instances, if not already completed. Such examples include welcome hampers, apartment amenities and cleaning products.
Colleagues and suppliers: All suppliers must comply with reasonable environmental, social and ethical standards. Colleague welfare is an important part of STAY’s culture, with an employee assistant programme readily available, as well as workshops and training opportunities.
Community: Residents are encouraged to immerse themselves in the local area, its history and cultural activities. STAY puts on regular events to promote a sense of community and connections, including child-friendly workshops, run-clubs and seasonal drinks events. Surplus non-perishables either left or donated by guests are delivered weekly to a local food-bank to benefit those in the local community. Volunteer days encouraged within the business, with regular opportunities provided.
